WOULD PHILS TRADE FOR SYNDERGAARD? WHY, HE’S 5-7 WITH 4.00 ERA!

By Sam Bush

The Phils pick it up after the All-Star game with a three-game series against the Cubs at CBP.

They are 49-43, a percentage point ahead of the Cards for the third and last wild card playoff spot.

But their pitching depth has been called into question because of Zach Eflin’s balky knee.

So, would trade for Noah Syndergaard make sense?

The Phillies have one of the league’s best one-two punches with Aaron Nola and Syndergaard’s former Mets teammate Zack Wheeler.

The addition of Syndergaard — and the expected returns of Bryce Harper and Jean Segura — could help the Phillies reach the postseason for the first time since 2011.

The ex-Met has racked up mediocre numbers this season for the Angels: 5-7 with a 4.00 ERA after Tommy John surgery in March 2020.
