As soon as Sixers star center Joel Embiid showed up on the “NBA Countdown” set minutes before the NBA finals last Friday, he saw an opportunity.

Clippers forward Paul George who could opt out of his current contract, was also on the set.

The buzz started to fly about him coming to the 76ers this off-season, joining with Embiid and Tyrese Maxey to form a Big 3.

It could happen.

George is 34 years old but still has some years of productive basketball left.

He averaged 22.6 ppg last season, shooting 47% from the field, 41% from beyond the 3-point line, and shot 90.7% from the foul line.

Solid numbers in anyone’s book.

It’s been reported the Clippers are reluctant to give George another long-term deal, and that the Sixers will have no problem giving George that contract.

With the NBA Finals getting close to the end — maybe tonight if the Celts wrap it up in game 5 over the Mavs — the new season and free agency will start soon after, June 30.

You can bet the Sixers will be involved in all deals to upgrade the team with plenty of money to spend and multiple draft picks capital to use when the new NBA calendar year begins.
