WHY DID IT TAKE SO LONG FOR EAGLES TO BENCH WOEFUL WENTZ?

When Eagles coach Doug Pederson finally pulled the trigger and benched Carson Wentz for rookie Jalen Hurts, Eagles Nation stopped holding its breath.

And wondered:

WHY DID IT TAKE SO LONG?

Wentz was terrible again yesterday just like he’s been all season. He completed 6 of 15 passes for just 79 yards in five drives and produced just three points. It took Hurts two drives to top that production.

Wentz has been the Birds worst starter by a North Dakota mile.

The Eagles have four games left, starting with a game against the NFC-leading New Orleans Saints next week.

They need to find out if Hurts is good enough that they can afford to bypass the quarterback position in next April’s draft.

Pederson would not commit postgame to Hurts as the starter moving forward, saying instead that he’ll evaluate
