VILLANOVA IS STILL STANDING, AND HOW SWEET IT IS!

By Mal Turner

So, now the field of 64 has been reduced to the Sweet 16.

And Villanova is still standing, with No. 2 nationally-ranked Baylor next up early Saturday night.

The Cats were written off by the stat-heads after Collin Gillespie got hurt.

But those dopes forgot that Jay Wright is a great coach, and he found a different way to win the last two games.

They lost their first two full games without Gillespie (Providence, Georgetown). But they scored at a rate of 112 points per 100 possessions in the first round against Winthrop and recorded a clip of 142 points per 100 possessions against North Texas in the second round.

Yes, they had one of the easier paths to the Sweet 16. But Jeremiah Robinson-Earl (averaging 20.0 PPG, 8.5 RPG, 6.0 APG) & Co. have regained the stride that made them the Big East’s most efficient offense.
