The Union have never won the MLS Cup, but fans are starting to believe it could be their year after a great start to the season. After wins against NY Red Bulls, DC United, and Portland in May, Union find themselves just five points behind the Revolution, who are in first place in the Eastern Conference.

Jack Elliot rounded off a comfortable 3-0 win against Portland on May 30, with a tap in from close range in the 63rd minute. It was his first MLS goal of the season and yet another clean sheet for the English defender.

Top betting sites like the FanDuel sportsbook have the Union at odds of +1600 to win the MLS Cup this year, which sees them sitting as fifth favorites behind the Sounders, Columbus, Orlando City, and LAFC. Some will say that it’s going to take a lot to stop Seattle winning another title, but if Jack Elliott and his teammates can continue their great form, there’s no reason why they can’t make it to the MLS Cup final this season.

Let’s not forget that they’re still fighting in the CONCACAF Champions League semi-finals too! They could create history by winning that competition for the very first time. They have to overcome Club America of Mexico next.

Some great recent news is that Coach of the Year Jim Curtin has just signed a two-year extension, which will give the players a boost as they continue their pursuit on the Eastern Conference after the International break.

June onwards is going to test the squad as it’s never easy to get straight back into the flow after a short break. However, Union will have all of their fans behind them from June 23 as Subaru Park is at 100% capacity for the game against Columbus. This is welcomed news and will hopefully give the side a much-needed boost as they try to stay in the win column.

There’s a long way to go before we know who will qualify for the playoffs, but Union have started well. They may well go on and win the Eastern Conference this year, but it’ll be the teams from the West that may cause Union the biggest headache. Seattle look strong, but Columbus shocked them in the MLS Cup Final last year, so why can’t Union do the same this year?
