The cheap shots and low blows are flying, and the Super Bowl is still a week away.
If the big game is half as nasty as what’s going on between sports talk radio rivals in Boston and Philly, it’ll be a bloodbath. Sports stations WEEI in Boston and WIP in Philly have been launching bombs at each other all week with a string of shock-jock-generated comments that ranged from outrageous to simply wicked.Former Eagle Jon Ritchie, who co-hosts the 94WIP Midday Show with Joe DeCamara, came out with both barrels blazing during the first week of pregame hype, going to the tried-and-true subject of cheating in ripping the Patriots.
Ritchie said he hates New England because he believes the cheating Pats cost him a ring when they beat the Eagles in the Super Bowl 13 years ago. Ritchie said the Patriots filmed Eagles practices before that game, claims the Eagles also made in an ESPN article three years ago.“When Spygate broke, some of the Eagles now believed they had an answer for a question that had vexed them since they lost to the Patriots 24-21 in Super Bowl XXXIX: How did New England seem completely prepared for the rarely used dime defense the Eagles deployed in the second quarter, scoring touchdowns on three of four drives?” the article said. “The Eagles suspected that either practices were filmed or a playbook was stolen. ‘To this day, some believe that we were robbed by the Patriots not playing by the rules … and knowing our game plan,’ a former Eagles football operations staffer says.”
