SIXERS WAIVE JAKARR SAMPSON, ACQUIRE JOEL ANTHONY

By Sam Bush

The Sixers let yesterday’s trade deadline pass yesterday without making a big splash. But they sent out a few ripples.

JaKarr Sampson (above) was waived to make room for Joel Anthony who was acquired Wednesday in exchange for a 2017 second-round pick from the Rockets through a three-team deal involving the Pistons. The team could re-sign him and likely will.

Sampson averaged 5.1 points, 2.7 rebounds and 0.6 assists in his second season with the Sixers. He went undrafted out of St. John’s and worked to establish himself as a defensive presence in the NBA. Recently, he began honing on his three-point shot to expand his versatility.
