The Sixers signed sharpshooting JJ Redick last year to a one-year deal at $23 million, and they were able to retain him this offseason, though for a deep discount — $12 million.
The second-best Sixers scorer after Joel Embiid was prepared to take a hike, however.
In the most recent J.J. Redick Podcast, he had this to say about his free agency decision:
“I almost signed with Indy. I was an hour away, two hours away, I was very close. I had a 5:00 PM deadline… it was 12:30, 1:00 in the afternoon when Philly changed the offer… I had a whole conversation with Nate McMillan…”
“I had a similar mindset to DeMarcus going into free agency… if your incumbent team doesn’t offer, you need to go get an offer.”
