SIXER ROOK MARKELLE FULTZ PRACTICES AS BACK-UP POINT TO BIG BEN!

By Michael Bennett

JJ Redick is injured and out, so:

For the last five Sixers practices, coach Brett Brown has run Markelle Fultz as the back-up point guard behind Ben Simmons, bringing the ball up the floor for the second unit in place of T.J. McConnell, who is still playing in that line-up.

“We play and I coach him like I coach Ben Simmons. We run plays, run our structure and he looks good. He looks good. You can see why he was the first player” drafted,” Brown said. “It’s what he does with the ball, his ability to get in the lane and find people … he can still impact an NBA game without having to shoot, he really can. He can impact an NBA game without having to shoot. But that doesn’t make him whole.”

Brown put him at the line six times yesterday.

“I said ‘Markelle, you make it you keep it, you don’t, it’s the other team’s ball,'” Brown said. “It’s 92-91. (Then) he goes 5 for 6, and he looked good doing it.”

Brown said he intends to start Jerryd Bayless in Redick’s place tonight against the Celtics.
