The Eagles’ surprising extension of linebacker DeMeco Ryans on Monday, especially because he is recovering from his second Achilles tendon surgery, begs the question:
What does this mean for Mychal Kendricks’ future with the team?
Although the extension was done more to lower Ryan’s cap hit this season, as opposed to a desire to lock him up beyond this year, it still means that Ryans and Kiko Alonso are under contract next season, and Kendricks (photo above) is not.
Kendricks, therefore, should not sign long-term leases on homes or cars in Philly.
Eagles coach Chip Kelly was quick to mention Kendricks’ history with injuries earlier this month during the NFL annual meetings, which doesn’t bode well. Nor does his relatively small size.
