RUPP BASHES RECORD 7 HOMERS IN MONTH FOR A’S , ER, PHILLIES!

By Sam Bush

Phillies catcher is a much better power hitter than he is a student of Philly sports lore.

Following a 9-4 loss to the San Diego Padres on Sunday, Rupp was informed that he’d become the franchise’s first rookie catcher in to hit seven homers in a month since 1922.

“Ah, that’s pretty cool,” Rupp responded. “Is that when they were the A’s?”

Rupp, who is platooning with Carlos Ruiz, quickly was informed that until 1954 Philly had been a two-team town.

“OK, I didn’t know that,” he said with a laugh. “I’ll get in trouble for that.”

It was natural mistake, as the A’s left town for Kansas City following the 1954 season — 34 years before Rupp, 26, was born in September 1988.
