Somewhere Sam Hinkie is laughing his ass off!
Tonight’s NBA draft lottery is the final piece of the process the former Sixers GM put in place when he was hired four years ago.
The Sixers have the most to win tonight.
Not only could they walk away with two top-four picks, but they also have the ability to swap picks with the Kings if Sacramento somehow moves ahead in the lottery.
Hinkie’s process has been mocked by many and it eventually cost him his job in 2016, but he has a chance to be completely redeemed.
If the Sixers can land the No. 1 pick and the Lakers’ pick slips to No. 4 or No. 5, the Sixers could field one of the most promising young teams ever.
Assuming they take Markelle Fultz first (he currently sits atop their big board) and a player like Malik Monk, the Sixers could add two elite shooters and athletes to a team already boasting two other potential franchise players — Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons.
This is the perfect draft for the Sixers to strike gold.
Coach Brett Brown plans on putting the ball in Simmons’ hands next year. What he needs are a couple of young, athletic guards who can spread the floor and find ways to score without being primary ball handlers. Fultz and Monk are the ideal backcourt to pair with Embiid and Simmons.
Grab the first and fourth picks and the process looks like an overwhelming success. End up with just the fourth or fifth pick and it feels like this may drag on another year.
