Phyllis Snider Foreman, the older sister of Flyers co-founder Ed Snider, passed away Saturday.
Her late husband, Earl Foreman, was also part of the Flyers’ original ownership group.
Mrs. Foreman gave Philly’s NHL hockey team the name “Flyers” after a variety of names were considered. But it was her suggestion that prevailed. The name “Flyers” was pre-selected before the organization held a “name the team” contest, in which the winning entry from the late Alec Stockard (a nine-year-old boy from Narberth, PA) was chosen among the entries suggesting Flyers or Fliers.
