The Phillies gave up on one-time top prospect Spencer Howard at the trade deadline in July.

He seemingly couldn’t throw more than 30 pitches without needing a nap.

Turns out he can’t pitch for the Rangers either.

He was tagged for six runs in 1 1/3 innings by the Astros last night.

Howard was expected to pitch three or four innings tonight in his second start back from the COVID IL, but that didn’t materialize.

He gave up three runs in the first and then allowed the first three batters to reach in the second.

He retired Alex Bregman afterwards, but he was pulled at that point anyway, and the next batter up, Yordan Alvarez, homered off Wes Benjamin.

Howard has given up 14 runs in 10 2/3 innings for the Rangers.
