PHILS SENT SCOTT KINGERY TO MINORS — HE’LL BE BACK!

By Sam Bush

The Phillies sent Scott Kingery down to Lehigh Valley a couple of days ago.

But rest assured that he’ll be back.

He turns 29 at the end of April. He will once again be one of the highest-paid players in all the minors. But Kingery has remade his swing with hitting coach Kevin Long and displayed a renewed confidence the Phillies lauded.

They will need him at some point in 2023. He’s back in the picture.

“I’m really proud of him for what he’s done because he’s overhauled his swing,” Phillies manager Rob Thomson said last week.

“He spent a lot of time with Kevin in the offseason. And Kevin said coming into spring, ‘This guy is different than he was last spring.’ I trust Kevin, but I want to get my eyes on it. And he was right. Scotty looks like the dynamic player that he was a few years ago. Whatever happens, it’s a great piece to have.”
