PHILS NEED PITCHING HELP EVEN IF ARRIETA IS HEALTHY!

By Sam Bush

So Phils manager Gabe Kapler says Jake Arrieta will pitch this weekend against the Nats.

Does that mean his right elbow is sound enough to be counted on for the playoffs push?

Or is the bone spur severe enough that a trade for a pitcher is necessary?

Kapler has said that Arrieta will pitch through it. He is still scheduled to start this weekend against the Nationals, but his injury puts an even greater emphasis on the Phils’ starting rotation, an already glaring weakness they were going to have to address before the end of the month.

They probably need another starter anyway, but if this is something that Arrieta can’t pitch through, because of surgery or ineffectiveness, it makes it even more critical for Philly to make a move before July 31.
