PHILS MERRIFIELD MYSTERY: WHY’S HE ONLY 3-25 TO START SEASON?

By Sam Bush

Whit Merrifield went 0-for-4 in the Phils loss to the Pirates, leaving him 3-for-25 to start the season.

Merrifield doesn’t have a single hard-hit ball in 22 balls in play this season. He’s usually right around 30 percent, which would be six or seven hard-hit balls at his usual pace.

It’s not like he’s helping the defense when he plays, so the Phillies might want to cut back on his role until he shows something.
