By Sam Bush

The Phillies were waxed by the Mets 24-4 in the first game yesterday.

And Phils manager Gabe Kapler is taking mucho heat for his decision to pitch outfielder Roman Quinn in the 7th inning and infielder Scott Kingery for the 8th. Quinn gave up six hits and seven runs, while Kingery gave up two runs.

Kapler appeared on WIP this morning and defended his decision:

“You guys are going to spin this however you want, but the fact of the matter is in the fifth inning when we’re down 11 runs, we started to prepare for the second game (of the double header),” he said. “We used strategy to best position the Phillies to win baseball games. We’re going to continue to do that. My job is to protect the Phillies. That’s it. That’s what I did.”
