PHILS JT REALMUTO IN CONCUSSION PROTOCOL: COULD BE OUT A WEEK!

By Sam Bush

The Phillies 8-2 smackdown by the Dodgers wasn’t their only loss last night.

Catcher J.T. Realmuto left in the first inning after he got struck in the head twice by consecutive foul balls.

He entered concussion protocol afterward. The Phillies expect to have those results today. If Realmuto needs to be placed on the concussion injured list, it lasts seven days.

Realmuto took foul balls off his mask on a pair of 2-2 pitches to Dodgers first baseman Max Muncy. Realmuto needed a few moments to gather himself after the first one. The second one knocked off his mask. Phillies manager Joe Girardi and assistant athletic trainer Shawn Fcasni immediately visited Realmuto at home plate. Realmuto finished the top of the inning, but catcher Andrew Knapp hit for Realmuto in the bottom of the first.

“He’s day to day, questionable,” Girardi said. “We’ll have to see how he is tomorrow. Just have to wait and see. He goes through a test and you wait for MLB to respond to the test.”
