Phils boss Dave Dombrowski is bullish on Bryce Harper’s recovery from Tommy John surgery.
“He’s doing great,” Dombrowski said today.
Harper is taking dry swings at home in Las Vegas, meaning he is swinging a bat but not making contact with the baseball.
Then he’ll advance to a practice tee and then batting practice and ultimately facing live pitching.
The Phillies still say Harper will be back by the All-Star break in July.
Maybe sooner.
“You could say that he’s a little bit ahead, but oftentimes you say that about players and all of a sudden you have a setback,” Phillies manager Rob Thomson said.
“I’m just knocking on wood. We’re just going to make sure we’re careful with how we keep progressing with him. We’ve got a way to go.”
