PHILS FIRED KAPLER AFTER 2 FAILING SEASONS: HOW ABOUT GIRARDI?

By Jenny Masters

The Phillies lost last night to the way worst team in baseball, the Baltimore Orioles, and they are 3 games behind the Braves in NL East and 4 1/2 games out of the wild card with only 12 to play.

So, the question is:

If Gabe Kapler got dumped after tw losing season, why isn’t Joe Girardi on the same hot seat?

The Inky’s Scott Lauber and Matt Breen posed that question:

Lauber: Only ownership can answer that, and we haven’t heard publicly from John Middleton since last October.

Here’s what we know:

Owner John Middleton has great admiration for most people who own a World Series ring.

Girardi has four, including one as a manager.

After the Phillies hired two-time champion Dave Dombrowski last winter, Middleton said in a statement, “Between David and Joe Girardi, we now have two of the best people in place to set us on the path back to where we want to be, and that is the postseason and contending for world championships.”
