The Phillies have re-signed right-handed reliever Tommy Hunter for the 2020 season, says MLB.com, making him the 70th player in spring training camp, although it is unclear if the contract is a major league deal or not.
Hunter, 33, missed the majority of last season because of a strained right forearm that forced him to spend two separate stints on the Phillies’ 60-day injured list last season.
The 12-year veteran signed with the Phillies as a free agent on a two-year, $18 million deal in December 2017. He went 5-4 with a 3.80 ERA in 65 appearances in 2018, but was able to pitch only 5 1/3 scoreless innings of relief in his injury-riddled 2019 campaign.
In 448 career games (75 starts) with six teams, namely the Orioles and Rangers, Hunter is 56-44 with a 4.08 ERA with 21 saves.
