Because of the pandemic, many of Philly’s Coaches vs. Cancer events and initiatives were canceled this year, but the group is adapting to the times:

The first Coaches vs. Cancer Off the Court TV special will air at 7 p.m. ET tonight on NBC10 Philadelphia and be streamed at phillycvc.org.

The one-hour program will highlight the Big 5 basketball community and its legacy of support for Coaches vs. Cancer and the American Cancer Society’s mission, and will include appearances from coaches from across the country.

“We’ve done a lot of those things to help make up for, honestly, a lot of the funds we would’ve received at those events,” Penn head coach Steve Donahue said.

“I think it’s been difficult for every charity during this pandemic, but I think everyone understands that cancer doesn’t quit during a pandemic. It’s still here. We’re doing our best to pivot and do other events to help raise other funds so we don’t lose ground in our battle against it.”
