PHILLIES’ UTLEY INSISTS HE START FOR TRADING PARTNER, PLAY IN ’16!

By Sam Bush

The Chase Utley melodrama continues, as a few major league teams consider trading for the 36-year-old Phillies second baseman even though he is hitting only .196 and his physical frailty has impeded his play for the past four seasons.

Here is what ESPN.com’s Buster Olney just posted:

Folks close to Chase Utley are saying that in order to approve a trade, he needs to know he’s going to have a chance to play regularly. The Cubs have been ad-libbing at that position, using Chris Coghlan and Starlin Castro, and would have a spot for Utley. The Giants, on the other hand, know that Joe Panik might come back closer to the end of the month, and probably cannot assure Utley of a significant role in September.

Sources say that Utley’s full intention is to play in 2016, so it would behoove him to perform well down the stretch in an important role.
