The Phillies didn’t get pitching help at the just-concluded winter meetings, but:
According to NBCS Philly, Philadelphia is “strongly on” reliever Andrew Miller.
Miller had a down year in 2018 as he dealt with a shoulder injury, but the 33-year-old left-hander has been one of the best late-inning specialists in the game since 2014.
The highest ERA the 2006 first-round pick posted from 2014-2017 was a 2.04 in 2015. He struck out at least 100 batters from 2014-2016.
But 2018’s numbers are concerning as he posted an ERA of 4.24 and a WHIP of 1.38.
However, his FIP (Fielding Independent Pitching) stood at 3.51 and he still struck out 11.9 batters per nine innings in 34 innings pitched, so he was a little bit unlucky and still has the ability to miss bats.
