The Phillies hit the road tonight in Milwaukee, and that gives Aaron Nola a chance to rebound from a disappointing effort.
Nola allowed seven runs in five innings — but Brewers starter Zach Davies was worse.
In his season debut, Davies lasted just 2 1/3 innings and allowed six runs (five earned) in a loss to Pittsburgh. Nola’s solid first two starts (14 innings, five runs, 17 strikeouts) balanced out his season stats, but Davies enters Friday’s contest sporting a 19.29 ERA.
The played 15 straight days between its day off after opening day and the travel day to Milwaukee yesterday. The Phillies will play only three longer stretches, including a 20-game run in June that includes a West Coast swing.
