Foe the San Francisco Giants, signing Phillies great shortstop Jimmy Rollins is low-risk, high-reward.
They brought Bay Area native Rollins back home with a minor league deal worth $1 million if he can crack the opening day roster.
Rollins will receive a non-roster invitation to spring training, where he will battle with the likes of Kelby Tomlinson, Ehire Adrianza and Conor Gillaspie for a backup infielder job.
Given Rollins’ struggles since leaving the Phillies and his lack of positional flexibility, it’s hard to imagine the former All-Star shortstop making the team, but crazier things have happened.
