Phillies fans are on pins and needles wondering and worrying about when or whether Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. will pull the trigger on a deal to trade the only blue-chipper he possesses, pitcher Cole Hamels, in exchange for a handful of prospects that could be the team’s future.
The trouble is, Amaro has shown no ability to time the market and as a result other GMs don’t take what he says seriously.
Bottom line, if Amaro in fact trades Hamels he will probably receive far less than if the Phillies had a real evaluator of talent as a GM. Or a real businessman.
