PHILLIES’ SHOCK TROOPER GONZALEZ TO PITCH TOMORROW IN L. A.

By Sam Bush

Look who’s back on the Phillies roster and penciled in to start against the Dodgers Thursday in L. A.?

Severino Gonzalez, who was called up from Lehigh Valley along with hurler Hector Neris.

Gonzalez will start in place of Kevin Correia, who was designated for assignment. The 22-year-old right-hander has not made more than three straight starts at the same level this year.

Neris, a reliever, takes the spot of Sean O’Sullivan, who was roughed up again Monday night against the Dodgers and subsequently outrighted to the IronPigs.

Aaron Nola could also potentially start for the Phillies Saturday, though he has only made four starts at Triple-A. He is in line to start Thursday for the IronPigs. Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. recently told MLB.com that Nola was “close,” but they still weren’t going to rush him just because the Phillies rotation needed help.

Jesse Biddle is scheduled to start tonight for Double-A Reading and could be another candidate to fill in for the IronPigs.
