PENN STATE’S JOE PATERNO RATED 6TH BEST COACH OF ALL-TIME!

Alabama’s Nick Saban came in at No. 1.

Sporting News’ Mike Decourcy summed it up well for the man who spent his entire coaching career with the Nittany Lions:

Paterno left behind a “complicated legacy that will never be untangled” upon being dismissed from Penn State in November 2011 amid the child sex abuse scandal involving former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky.

Nonetheless, the 409 wins that Paterno racked up during his 45-year run as the Nittany Lions’ head coach stand as the most ever by a head coach at the FBS level.

Paterno finished his career with 20 individual national coach of the year honors, two national championships (1982, 1986) and 21 double-digit win campaigns.

Paterno died in January 2012, two months after his resignation, at the age of 85.
