It’s never too early to tee up next season’s college basketball, and The Athletic likes Villanova’s chances in the Big East:
Potential starters: Collin Gillespie (above), Justin Moore, Caleb Daniels, Jermaine Samuels, Eric Dixon
Bench: Brandon Slater, Bryan Antoine, Chris Arcidiacono, Trey Patterson (enrolled early), Jordan Longino (Fr.), Nnanna Njoku (Fr.), Angelo Brizzi (Fr.), Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree
The Wildcats return four starters from last season’s Big East regular-season championship team, including their senior leaders in Gillespie and Samuels, who took advantage of the extra year of eligibility granted by the NCAA.
With Moore, Daniels, Antoine, Arcidiacono and freshmen Longino and Brizzi, Villanova is deep on the perimeter with a nice blend of youth and experience. Its biggest question mark will be on the interior. With Jeremiah Robinson-Earl and Cole Swider gone and Cosby-Roundtree’s playing future uncertain, Dixon, a redshirt sophomore who averaged just 8.2 minutes in 21 games last season, is expected to slide into the starting lineup.
