NOLA PITCHED WELL ENOUGH TO WIN, BANGED-UP PHILS CAN’T SCORE!

By Barton Allison

Aaron Nola allowed three runs with nine strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings in the Phils 3-2 loss to the Pads.

A solo homer by Nick Gordon in the second inning was the only run Nola had allowed going into the seventh.

He stayed in just a bit too long as two doubles and a base hit would bring two more runs in to score for the Marlins, costing Nola the chance for the win.

Still, he struck out nine batters with no walks in the solid outing.

The 31-year-old right-hander will take a 3.43 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, and a 99/25 K/BB ratio across 107 2/3 innings into a start against the Braves in Atlanta on Friday.
