PHILLY MAYOR: NO SPORTS NOT THAT IMPORTANT WITH 150K DEAD!

By Harvey Hoffman

Philly Mayor Jim Kenney was optimistic no Phillies players had tested positive this week for the coronavirus.

“I wish it was all different, and I wish people were more responsible,” Kenney told The Athletic. “And I wish that these players, considering the responsibilities they have as really unique people in our society, that people look up to, for good or for bad, would do the right thing and put on the damn mask and not go out clubbing and follow the guidelines that the health and science people put forward. But we lay in the bed we make, and it’s frustrating for me to be outside the city and see people not wearing a mask and not doing the things they should be doing.

“It’s frustrating overall, but when you think about 150,000 people dead and 4.7 million people infected, if we didn’t have sports for a whole year, it wouldn’t be the most important thing that happens.”
