NINERS WERE HYPED ALL SEASON, UNTIL SMACKED DOWN IN PHILLY!

By Mike Bennett

It may take a village to raise a child.

But it takes a pounding in the NFC title game to raise the level of objectivity in the media.

The Niners have been hyped all year.

Jimmy G and Christian Mac, and then the rookie QB Brock Purdy.

But after yesterday’s 31-7 waxing by the Eagles, even SFGate.com, which is filled by Niners butt boys, had to admit:

The Eagles were the best team in the NFC all season long for a reason.

On the road, the 49ers needed an excellent performance to pull off the upset.

Instead, their already depleted depth at quarterback was tested even further by injuries to Brock Purdy and Josh Johnson.

Though the Niners appeared incapable of losing for the better part of three months, a lot of luck had to break their way to rattle off a 12-game winning streak.

Things finally started going wrong on Sunday, and against a team where the margin for error was something close to zero.
