The Washington Post is reporting that:

NFL is considering playing a Monday night game during the opening round of the playoffs in January.

If the new setup is enacted, the NFL’s first playoff weekend probably will include two games Saturday, three Sunday and one Monday.

That configuration was considered a possibility all along as the NFL put its expanded playoff field into effect last season. The postseason field was enlarged from 12 to 14 teams. Only one team per conference was given an opening-round bye instead of two, making for six games — three in each conference — on the opening weekend instead of four.

Last season, the league opted to play three opening-round games Saturday and three Sunday. But it might make the move to a Monday night playoff game this season. The consideration of that switch was first reported by league-owned NFL Network.
