NEW-LOOK PHILS HITTING HASN’T CAUGHT UP WITH MLB PITCHING YET

By Art Beitchman

The new-look Phillies with the beefy upgraded lineup has run into a New York Mets team that spent a ton of money in the offseason too.

Without facing aces Jacob deGrom or Max Scherzer (who pitches today), the Phils have not swung the bats well versus their secondary pitchers, not good.

The new firepower at the top of the Phils lineup has sputtered in the early going. Bryce Harper is still without a home run in the first 4 games. Sure it’s very early and the hitting will eventually come through over the long haul of a 162-game season.

However, having a winning 3-2 record is huge.

If the Phillies are going to battle and win a playoff spot this year, the bats will have to wake up to get that postseason berth for the 1st time in over 10 MLB seasons.
