The Flyers become the first modern NHL expansion team to win a championship, taking the Stanley Cup with a 4-2 series win over the Boston Bruins.
The Flyers became the first post-1967 team to beat an Original Six team in the postseason. Goalie Bernie Parent (above) won the Conn Smythe trophy after shutting out the Bruins 1-0 in Game 6. Rick MacLeish scored the Cup-clinching goal.
The occasion came with some apparent good luck.
