The worst-in-baseball Phillies today admitted two massive mistakes.
They designated outfielder Michael Saunders (above) and right-hander Jeanmar Gomez, whom they signed over the winter for $13.2 million in 2017 combined salaries, for assignment.
They selected the contracts of Triple-A Lehigh Valley outfielder Cameron Perkins and left-hander Hoby Milner to take their spots on the 25-man roster.
Saunders hit .205 with six home runs, 20 RBIs and a .617 OPS this season. Gomez was 3-2 with a 7.25 ERA in 18 appearances.
