Commanders general manager Martin Mayhew did not commit to bringing back Carson Wentz in 2023.
Mayhew and head coach Ron Rivera are slated to meet with the team’s ownership on Monday to discuss their future — or lack of a future — with the organization.
Washington missed the postseason with four straight losses to close the year, with Wentz proving disastrous in relief of Taylor Heinicke, who is also not good.
Wentz, 30, will be a $26.1 million cap hit in 2023 if the Commanders keep him on the roster.
With no dead cap hit, according to Spotrac, Wentz has little chance of returning to Washington. Sam Howell, who acquitted himself well in Week 18 against the Cowboys, could be in line to start for the Commanders in 2023.
