The National Baseball Hall of Fame yesterday announced this year’s 10-player Golden Era ballot.
Those 10 players: the Phillies’ Richie Allen, Ken Boyer, Gil Hodges, Bob Howsam, Jim Kaat, Minnie Minoso, Tony Oliva, Billy Pierce, Luis Tiant and Maury Wills.
The Golden Era Committee, which replaced the Veterans Committee in 2010, consists of 16 members who will review and vote on the Hall of Fame candidates at the winter meetings in December. Twelve votes are needed for induction into Cooperstown. The Golden Era vote takes place once every three years.
Allen, Howsam, Pierce and Wills are newcomers to the ballot. Boyer (3 votes), Hodges (9), Kaat (10), Minoso (9), Oliva (8) and Tiant (3) were on the 2012 ballot. The late Ron Santo received 15 votes in 2012 and so far is the only player elected to the Hall of Fame by the Golden Era Committee.
