Look for Eagles rookie Wendell Smallwood to get a chance to prove his worth starting next Monday night against the Packers at the Linc.
Smallwood needed two running backs to go down to get a real chance at fantasy relevance, but he got that yesterday, with Darren Sproles (ribs) and Ryan Mathews (knee) leaving Week 11’s game against the Seahawks.
Of course, he also needs two players to heal sufficiently slowly to all0w him an opportunity to start in Week 12, but he is still worthy of our attention for the time being.
Maybe Mathews or Sproles — or both — will wind up able to practice and play this week, but for now, Smallwood looks like an attractive target.
He has shown flashes this season, notably when he rushed for 79 yards and a score in Week 3, and he entered Week 11 averaging 4.7 yards per carry overall.
Sproles and Mathews will get an extra day to recover with the Eagles set to play Monday night in Week 12, but it is still worth looking into Smallwood at this point if you’ve got the roster spot.
