The best part about NFL preseason football is when the last game is played.

Because that means the regular season is upon us — five nights from now when the Eagles go to Atlanta for “Monday Night Foootball!”

Against he New York Jets, newly acquired LB Kiko Alonso got in eight snaps, made two tackles with some speed and force, then hit the bench waiting for opening day. What did we learn?

Chip Kelly didn’t want to waste a roster spot on third string QB’s who can’t cut in the NFL, thus Matt Barkley and Tim Tebow were jettisoned.

The 53-man roster was set when the Eagles claimed QB Stephen Morris from the Jaguars; Morris had a modicum of success at Miami U in his junior and senior years.

TE Chris Pantale was added to the practice squad, the only player not to be in training camp this summer — perhaps an insurance policy on Zack Ertz’ availability come opening night in Atlanta.

On the verge of the 2015 season, Kelly’s third at the helm, the Eagles appear to have their most complete and talented team in many years, on both side of the ball.

Expectations are at a fever pitch in Philly on what the 2015 Eagles can accomplish, they are legit Super Bowl contenders for the first time since 2004, when they lost to the Patriots. As a fan that’s all you can hope for, that your team has a shot to win the big game, and the Eagles do.

Thus the 17-2 odds in Las Vegas betting parlors to win Super Bowl 50, tied for third highest!

SB 50 is set to take place at Levi Stadium Sunday February 7th, 2016 in Santa Clara, CA. For the first time in Super Bowl history, the game will be branded with the Arabic numeral 5o, instead of the Roman Numeral ‘L’.

For the Eagles and their long-suffering fans, the only number that matters is 1.

As in winning the team’s first Vince Lombardi Trophy!
