Eagles coach Chip Kelly obviously likes making a punching bag of WIP gasbag Howard Eskin, who habitually asks the most inane question at every day-after presser.
On Monday, the pompous Eskin actually posed this question:
“How do you explain that you are 5-1?”
Kelly’s response?
“We don’t have to explain,” he said. “You are what you are. I don’t care. I have nothing to explain to anybody. I don’t worry about that. I don’t go in after a game and say, ‘OK, let’s come up with [something to] to tell the reason why.’ It’s, we’re 5-1, that’s it. You don’t have to explain it to anybody. Your record is what it is. You look at the standings and that’s your record. We don’t pay attention to it. There’s noise out there that when you spend time on it, you’re wasting time that you should be devoting towards developing a game plan for the Arizona Cardinals.”
He was then asked about the criticism of Bradley Fletcher and Cary Williams this season.
“I think a lot of the times you guys are wrong. Seriously. That’s what I really think. And when we start listening to people outside of here, we’re going to be in trouble. Then we would be wrong. I think those guys have played really, really well.”
After a solid week of N. Y. Giants jaw-wagging, disrespecting the Eagles every which way, the Birds took their wrath out on the team from the East Rutherford Jersey Turnpike exit with a 60-minute 27-0 demolition.
Coincidently, the last Eagles’ shutout came against the same team, 24-0 on December 1, 1996 at Veterans Stadium. This shutout will stick to the Giants ribs all season long.
Giants QB Eli Manning got battered and bruised from jump street, getting sacked 8 times, three from Birds LB Connor Barwin who played his best game in all black uniforms for the first time ever. I’m sure we’ll see them again.
Giants coach Tom Coughlin flirted with trying to avoid being shut out with a meaningless field goal in the waning minutes of the game, but wisely didn’t, realizing the butt-whipping wouldn’t be any less painful with a 3 on the scoreboard.
Shady McCoy had his break-out game, going 22/149 yards; QB Nick Foles got the party started with a perfectly thrown TD pass to Zack Ertz in the 1st quarter, and never looked back.
Kelly revealed that RB Darren Sproles has a mild MCL sprain, and should be good in two weeks; and he reiterated he wouldn’t be making any roster moves for the bye week — tongue in cheek.
After the bye week, the Eagles travel to Arizona to take on the Cardinals on October 26, @ 4:05pm/Fox-29.
