If there was any doubt left about Chip Kelly’s big-balls move to trade Nick Foles for Sam Bradford in the offseason, it has disappeared.
Kelly was right — big-time!
Observing the new Eagles signal caller carve up the Green Bay Packers in the Birds 39-26 win at Lambeau Field last Saturday night should quiet the naysayers, at least for one more week.
Bradford feathered in his first TD pass over the Pack defender, dropping in the 8-yard reception to Darren Sproles, and the Eagles never looked back, for the third straight week!
Bradford also connected on TD passes to Trey Burton and Brent Celek before leaving with Eagles kicking the Pack all over Lambeau Field 25-0.
I’ve heard the past couple of weeks that it’s “only the preseason.” Yes, these games don’t count in the standings on Roosevelt Boulevard, but they do on Las Vegas Boulevard where they make the point spreads, and Super Bowl odds on an around-the-clock basis.
In the last two weeks the Birds have gone from 20-1 to win Super 50, then 15-1, after the Packers game they have dropped to 10-1, behind only the Seahawks, Packers, Colts. Not bad for a team that Kelly transformed into his own image this last offseason, with many changes in personnel.
LB Kiko Alonso was held out with a leg issue, but Kelly assured the media it was only precautionary, and he would be on the practice field this week. He might even get some snaps in the final preseason game in MetLife stadium this Thursday versus the Jets, if only to get lathered up before opening day.
Demarco Murray and Ryan Mathews also got some light work in the Packers game, no doubt with their eyes on the season opener in less than two weeks.
Keeping players healthy for the NFL season opener versus the Atlanta Falcons on September 14th @ 7:10pm/ESPN will be the focus, as the Sam Bradford era gets closer, by the day.
