The Phillies are sending Aaron Nola out to stop the Nationals in their noon game today in Washington.
Tanner Roark has pitched well in day games, and the Nationals right-hander will get another chance to go in one on the afternoon matchup against the Phillies, who will counter with quality-start artist Nola.
Roark’s career ERA in 25 starts in day games is a solid 2.96. He’s even better when starting in Washington — posting a 2.33 ERA in day games as a starter in Nationals Park, and they’ll hope for more of the same in the middle game of this weekend series. Overall, he is 4-4 with a 3.21 ERA this season.
Nola tossed six shutout innings his last time out for his ninth consecutive quality start. He’s 5-4 with a 2.65 ERA this season but still is looking for his first career victory versus the Nationals. The right-hander is 0-2 with a 4.82 ERA against Washington.
