IF PHILS FIRE KAPLER, GIRARDI AND SHOWALTER ARE THE SHORT LIST!

By Sam Bush

Will Gabe Kapler come back next year as Phillies manager?

It’s anyone’s guess as owner John Middleton confers with everybody including the ushers at Citizens Bank Park to make a decision on the two-year record of the skipper.

If he does fire Kapler, who has racked up 80-82 and 81-81 records, a pair of former New York Yankees skippers are rumored to be on the Phillies’ short list, according to MLB.com’s Todd Zolecki, who answered that question on WIP:

“Buck would make the most sense,” Zolecki said. “If they fired Gabe, I think Buck would be the presumed leader in the clubhouse in terms of who replacing Gabe, if they make that change. Joe Girardi, I think, is a similar type of a manager. But yeah, Buck, Andy MacPhail hired him to be the Orioles manager years ago. He worked with (Phillies GM) Matt (Klentak), he worked with Ned Rice the assistant GM, he has relationships with all of those guys. That would make a lot of sense.”
