In the 37 days AC (after Chip), new/old personnel boss Howie Roseman has been spending owner Jeffrey Lurie’s money. Roseman calls it “investing in our own” when he handed out very nice contracts to tackle Lane Johnson, tight end Zach Ertz and defensive end Vinny Curry and convinced tight end Brent Celek to take an extension that helped the team’s salary cap situation. Sooner than later, defensive tackleFletcher Cox is going to blow open the vault; and probably the Eagles’ salary cap.
There’s nothing wrong with keeping your own, if they’re the right ones. Roseman just bet a while bunch of Jeffrey dollars that Johnson, a right tackle his first three years in the league, will be a good left tackle; that Ertz will score more than two touchdowns next season and several seasons after; and that Curry will get more than three-and-a-half sacks going forward.
