As the restraints of the COVID-19 shutdown slowly ease, in Philadelphia — where sports is much more than a game — all five sports franchises are gearing up to either resume their seasons.
The Phillies will do this tomorrow night vs. the Miami Marlins at CBP, certainly a first, and hopefully only time a MLB season will ever start on July 24th!
The 76ers will resume the 2019-20 season in the Walt Disney World bubble in Orlando, Florida on August 1st versus the Indiana Pacers. The Flyers play the Boston Bruins on August 2nd finishing off their regular season before playoffs start.
MLS has gotten the jump with the Union already having played three games down in Florida.
What common sense couldn’t do, the COVID-19 did:
Eliminating all NFL preseason games due to the virus.
All NFL teams are opening within the next week, rookies have already reported, taking COVID tests, settling in to their new homes for the next five or six months, depending how far this 2020 Eagles can go.
The veterans will report July 28, under the latest ramp-up proposals:
–Testing & physicals for 5-6 days
–Strength & conditioning plus walk-throughs thru day 18
–Ramp up with helmets through Day 18
–On day 20, pads go on
Bring on the action after a nearly five-month drought!
