As the Flyers prepare to take on the Sharks late tonight in San Jose, they are basking in the glow of a two-game win streak after theur visits to Anaheim and Los Angeles.
But let’s be real.
Their penalty kill still sucks.
They’re operating at 68.8 percent (30th in the league) and have looked lost on most nights playing that passive box, which invites skilled offensive players to attack unimpeded.
But on Thursday the man-down unit came up large early in the game.
The Flyers found themselves facing a two-man disadvantage midway through the first period, but were able to stave off the Kings’ power play thanks to goalie Brian Elliott (above) and several well-timed blocks.
The PK successfully killed off three first-period power plays for Los Angeles, which seemed to energize the Flyers and they were able to carry the play for most of the contest.
