Flyers defenseman Ivan Provorov caused a stir the other night by not wearing a Pride shirt, which every other team member did as a show of support for the LGBTQ community.
What are the ramifications?
It’s been no secret for quite a while that Provorov isn’t the most popular in the Flyers’ locker room — it’s part of the reason why he’s recently popped up in trade rumors.
Tuesday night could deepen that divide.
There are members of the Flyers, Scott Laughton and James van Riemsdyk, in particular, who have stepped up to make Pride Night an inclusive event. By refusing to wear the Pride uniform in warmups, Provorov didn’t have his teammates’ backs, nor was he willing to open his mind to their perspectives.
“I think we’ve had those conversations, and I think they’re ongoing,” Laughton responded when asked after the game if they tried to broach the subject with Provorov.
